Seasonal Brews in Stock

Allagash Brewing Co. Interlude
From the Brewery: "Two yeast strains were used to create this unique Belgian style ale. The first, a Belgian farmhouse yeast, establishes the flavor foundations of a classic Belgian-style ale. The second, a house strain of Brettanomyces yeast, brings it to the next level contributing an intriguing myriad of flavors including pear, apricot, graham cracker, and bread crust. Finally, a portion of the Interlude is aged in French Merlot and Sirah oak barrels, which impart a distinctive vinous plum character and a drying, almost tannic finish. Try complimenting its audacious character with food pairings such as sausages, salami, smoked meats, and bold cheeses. Bottle Conditioned, Available in: 750 ml bottles."

Sierra Nevada Bigfoot Barley Wine
"Bigfoot Ale is an award-winning example of the traditional barleywine ale style. It boasts a dense, fruity bouquet; an extremely rich, intense palate; and a deep, reddish-brown color. This ale is superbly balanced between an almost overpowering maltiness and a wonderfully bittersweet hoppiness."

Two Brothers Brewing Co. Cane and Ebel
"This unique red rye beer is full of hop flavor and aroma. We add 35 pounds of
Thai palm sugar to each batch. The sugar does not add much sweetness
to the beer, but rather a fruity and vanilla-like flavor. A new hop variety call Summit
is really showcased here. This 18% alpha hop is also very aromatic which
gives a pungent citrus aroma. Then we heavily dry-hopped the beer with Simcoe.
Original, yes and that is no sin."

Avery Brewing Co. New World Porter
"A traditional black porter, with a surprise twist - it's dry-hopped!! We've expanded the porter category a bit, adding a delightful, dry hop aroma to blend with the sweet caramel and chocolate characteristics of a Robust Porter. "

Tasting

Stop by this Friday, March 2nd between 4 & 7 for a tasting of a few French wines from around the country, including three new arrivals from importer Charles Neal.

Domaine De Pellehaut Gascon Harmonie Blanc 2005: Made with 40% Ugni Blanc, 20% Gros Manseng, 20% Colombard, 15% Chardonnay and 5% Sauvignon Blanc. Red grapefruit, citrus fruits and an intriguing herbal note make for an ideal flavor combination. The wine sees no malolactic fermentation, which helps guard its acidity and make it especially refreshing.

Sablet Côtes du Rhône Villages Blanc 2005: Made with fairly equal parts of Clairette, Grenache Blanc, Viognier and Roussanne from sand, clay and silt-based vineyards. 30 year old vineyards with an approximate yield of 35 hl/ha. Made with indigenous yeasts, barrel fermented and aged 8 months in barrels that have previously held two wines, with lees stirring once a week.

Domain Laffont, Madiran 2004 Erigone
Erigone (the name of the sultry goddess seduced by Dionysus) is a cuvée made with 80% tannat and 20% cabernet franc. Harvest is strictly manual, the grapes are destemmed, then pass through a sorting table manned by several people who reject any grapes not worthy. After indigenous yeast fermentation, the élévage takes place in oak(2nd and 3rd use) for sixteen months, and the wine is bottled without fining or filtration.

Also Pouring:

Cuvee de Pena 2004 VdP Pyrenees Orientales
Not only friendly, maybe the world’s most versatile wine. Just try to find a food it doesn’t work with! Cuvee de Peña happily accompanies hot dogs, tuna casserole, gourmet burgers, roast prime rib of beef, fish sticks, Chinese carry-out, pizza... You get the picture. In warm weather stick it in the fridge for half an hour - it won’t lose aromas or flavors. Keep it on hand!
50% Grenache 30%Syrah 20% Carignin

Domaine Fougery de Beauclair Savigny-Les Beaune 2001
100% Pinot Noir from Savigny-Les Beaune, a northern village in Burgundy's Cote de Beaune.
Situated on a steep hillside at a place called "Les Golardes" which had not been cultivated for about one hundred years and was cleared and replanted in 1979. An elegant yet quite powerful bouquet marked by a dominating morello cherry, black current and raspberry aroma, tending towards strawberry and woodland after a few years. Smooth, discrete tannic structure-a "feminine" wine.
